About the Role
Mercor is hiring PhD-level Chemistry Experts to help improve the safety and reliability of advanced AI systems.
In this role, you will apply your scientific expertise to evaluate, annotate, and strengthen how AI models handle specialized chemistry topics. No prior experience in AI or machine learning is required — training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Write expert-level prompts across specialized chemistry domains
- Review AI outputs for scientific accuracy, reasoning quality, and appropriate handling of sensitive topics
- Identify errors, omissions, and safety concerns
- Assess content involving chemical safety, hazardous materials, and dual-use chemical knowledge
- Apply structured evaluation guidelines and document findings clearly
Required Qualifications
- PhD (completed or in progress) in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Deep familiarity with modern laboratory methods, experimental techniques, and computational chemistry workflows
- Strong scientific writing and communication skills in English
- Understanding of responsible handling of sensitive chemical information
Preferred Qualifications
- Research or coursework in chemical safety, chemical security, chemical synthesis, or hazardous-materials handling
- Experience reviewing technical content, scientific peer review, or red-teaming technical material
Project Details
- 15-25 hours/week, flexible up to 40 hours/week
- Fully remote, flexible schedule
- Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
