Job description

Biochemistry Subject Matter Expert (AI Training)

About the Role

We're looking for PhD-level Biochemists to help train and refine some of the world's most advanced AI models. Your deep scientific expertise will directly shape how AI reasons through complex topics like protein folding, metabolic flux, enzyme kinetics, and molecular genetics — making a real impact on the future of scientific AI.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No prior AI experience required.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Advanced Problems — Create challenging biochemistry questions and scenarios across areas like nucleic acid chemistry, proteomics, structural biology, and drug-target interactions to rigorously test AI performance.
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as gold-standard benchmarks for AI reasoning in life sciences.
  • Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and scientific reasoning for technical accuracy, logical consistency, and adherence to scientific standards.
  • Refine AI Reasoning — Identify flaws in AI thinking — such as incorrect stoichiometry, misapplied stereochemistry, or faulty mechanistic logic — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance.

Who You Are

  • Holds a PhD (completed or in final stages) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, bioinformatics, or molecular genetics
  • Able to communicate complex biochemical and chemical concepts clearly and precisely in writing
  • Meticulous attention to detail when reviewing chemical equations, molecular diagrams, and experimental logic
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in an asynchronous environment
  • No prior AI or data annotation experience required

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or quality assurance workflows
  • Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST
  • Background in science writing, peer review, or technical editing

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects in collaboration with leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and asynchronous — work on your own schedule, wherever you are
  • Intellectually stimulating work that puts your PhD-level expertise to use in a new and impactful domain
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
