Job description
Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer
About the Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to help make it happen. As a Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer, you'll use your deep domain expertise to challenge, evaluate, and improve how AI reasons through complex engineering problems.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering and artificial intelligence — no AI background required.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Create challenging, real-world problems spanning fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write detailed, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and model evaluation
- Audit AI Reasoning — Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
- Identify & Fix Reasoning Failures — Spot logical errors such as incorrect force distributions or energy conservation violations, and provide structured feedback to improve the model's reasoning process
- Work Flexibly and Independently — Complete task-based assignments on your own schedule, fully remote
Who You Are
- Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Able to communicate complex technical concepts and physical phenomena clearly in written form
- Highly precise — you catch errors in mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in an async environment
- No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with data annotation, data quality, or AI evaluation systems
- Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
- Familiarity with evaluating or reviewing technical code or simulation workflows
Why Join Us
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects with top AI research labs and teams
- Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, anywhere in the world
- Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
- Gain first-hand exposure to how advanced large language models (LLMs) are trained and evaluated
- Make a meaningful impact by improving how AI understands and applies engineering knowledge
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
