About the Role

Mercor is hiring PhD-level Biology Experts to help improve the safety and reliability of advanced AI systems.

In this role, you will apply your scientific expertise to evaluate, annotate, and strengthen how AI models handle specialized life-science topics. No prior experience in AI or machine learning is required — training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write expert-level prompts across biological and life-science domains
  • Review AI outputs for scientific accuracy, reasoning quality, and appropriate handling of sensitive topics
  • Identify errors, omissions, and safety concerns
  • Assess content involving biosafety, biosecurity, and dual-use biological knowledge
  • Apply structured evaluation guidelines and document findings clearly

Required Qualifications

  • PhD (completed or in progress) in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Synthetic Biology, Immunology, or a related life-science discipline
  • Deep familiarity with modern laboratory methods, experimental techniques, and computational biology workflows
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills in English
  • Understanding of responsible handling of sensitive biological information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research or coursework in biosafety, biosecurity, pathogen biology, or gain-of-function considerations
  • Experience reviewing technical content, scientific peer review, or red-teaming technical material

Project Details

  • 15-25 hours/week, flexible up to 40 hours/week
  • Fully remote, flexible schedule
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
