MTurk is a marketplace — Requesters set the price for each Human Intelligence Task (HIT), not Amazon. A 2018 academic study found median earnings of ~$2/hr, with only ~4% of workers earning above the U.S. federal minimum wage ($7.25/hr). 61% of HITs paid 10¢ or less. Amazon takes a 20% commission on rewards (plus an additional 20% for HITs with 10+ assignments).
